So like I had said I've been researching schools, and found this absolutely amazing school in Montreal that has free tuition! I know, I couldn't believe it either until I called them to confirm I wasn't applying to a high school. And one of the things they require in their portfolio submission is a sketchbook to make sure you're drawing regularly-which I totally don't. So I bought a new book and have been plugging away at it as often as possible (when I'm not making hats and ear rings to make rent-gah!) Here's some of what I have so far. This particular piece was actually an idea I got from a project I did way back in high school where you take a photo of someone, slice it and then glue every other piece on paper and then draw the missing pieces in between. Totally fun with a neat look. Gotta love De Niro.
I've been in the arts since before I can remember. I have won scholarships to the Winnipeg Art Gallery, but while these courses did offer relevant classes, I do consider myself to be a self trained artist as I do not have any university "education."
I have taught art classes for years, hung works in different galleries and coffee houses, as well as been commissioned to produce works for various businesses in Winnipeg. I work primarily as residential support for adults with mental disabilities and plan and work on exhibitions and contracts on the side.
I am taking a break from my art to travel. As field research, I will be going to different countries of conflict to document various humanitarian and environmental issues which I will later paint for exhibitions.
Currently I am residing in beautiful New Haven, Connecticut volunteering with YWAM Axiom's Mercy and Justice DTS. Over the next 5 months I will be strengthening my relationship with God and then traveling to Pune, India to work in an orphanage with children born from prostitutes. It is my goal over the winter to become closer to Christ and help those in need.
